David Headley begins testifying in 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case
The justice really wants to issue Headley concerning Pakistan army’s participation and its own Inter-Providers Intellect within the 26/11 assaults in Mumbai, by which people had died.
Former FBI agent and Lashkar operative David Headley said to a special Mumbai court on Monday that his Lashkar “colleague” Sajid Mir was his main contact in the terror outfit. He had been accused of conspiracy, which carries a death sentence.
Headley revealed that he was dealt with by Pakistan ISI’s Major Iqbal and Sameer Ali and that LeT’s Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi’s handler was ISI Brigadier Rivaz.
Headley reportedly revealed that ISI chief Sujha Pasha had visited Lashkar-e-Taiba prime terrorist Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, after the latter was arrested in connection with 2008 terror attacks case. Headley further confessed that he was provided financial support for conducting a recce of Mumbai.
Six Americans were also killed on the coordinated attacks in Mumbai now infamously referred to as 26/11 since it had began on the night of Nov 26 in 2008.
“This is very important in the judicial history of India”, special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said on the eve of deposition of Headley as an approver before Additional Sessions Judge G A Sanap, who presides over special cases related to terrorism including those charged under now repealed TADA. Legally, Headley’s deposition is aimed at nailing Pakistani’s prevarication and lies in the Mumbai attack. The deposition is being recorded via video conferencing.
The court had on December 10, 2015, made Headly an approver and directed him to depose before the court on February 8 after he told Special Judge GA Sanap that he was “ready to depose” if granted pardon.
Meanwhile, a Mumbai police official said that Headley can give broader aspect of criminal conspiracy and who all were involved in the attacks which had left 166 dead and 309 others injured. Earlier Headley had said three senior Pakistani officials had played a key role in the attack.
Another alleged Lashkar handler Syed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal is also facing trial in the case.
