Willem Dafoe is Marilyn Monroe in New Super Bowl Spot
From Willem Dafoe in drag to an unlikely Helen Mirren necking a Budwesier, this year’s edition of the Super Bowl – the biggest day in U.S. sports – is proving something of a feeding frenzy for advertisers. Willem takes a bite and is magically transformed back into the radiant Marilyn.
The 60-year-old John Wick actor mustered up as much femininity he possibly can as he channels Marilyn Monroe in the famous dress blowing scene from the classic The Seven Year Itch. Basically, this ad needs a Snickers bar.
Once Dafoe/Monroe gets her Snickers, the half-terrifying, half-funny figure in the famous dress turns back into the sultry ’50s movie star.
“Super Bowl 50 is a celebration of this game’s unbelievable history, so we wanted to bring our A-game with a new “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” commercial that’s appropriately epic”, said Allison Miazga-Bedrick, SNICKERS Brand Director. And, perhaps, Dafoe’s only opportunity to play one of the most legendary stars of screen. The ad is now one of the most recognizable Super Bowl commercials of all time.
The campaign debuted its first “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” commercial during the 2010 Super Bowl with Betty White and the recently deceased actor Abe Vigoda.
