Zika virus: Health department confirms 3 cases in D.C.
Brazil’s top research institute yesterday said that Zika has been detected in urine and saliva, but added that there is no proof the virus can be transmitted through those fluids.
We look at the spread of the Zika virus, which scientists have linked to rising temperatures from global warming because of the increased incidence of mosquito-borne infections.
The CDC’s counterpart in England, Public Health England, has recommended that women whose partners have traveled to a Zika-affected area avoid getting pregnant for 28 days after a male partner’s return, assuming he is not showing symptoms of the disease.

The U.N. human rights agency called for some nations to loosen strict laws against abortion and US health authorities recommended men who have visited areas with the Zika virus use condoms if they have sex with pregnant women.
At least a half-dozen other residents in New York, New Jersey and CT have brought the disease back after visiting one of the countries affected by the outbreak. Aedes mosquitos have been observed in the southern United States, however. For the 20% who display symptoms, the illness is mild and may include fever, rash, joint pain and conjunctivitis.
