Blake Griffin injures hand, does it impact Clippers’ NBA Finals odds?
Griffin hit the man, who then left the restaurant and went outside.
ESPN reported earlier Tuesday that Griffin, 26, got into an argument with Matias Testi in Toronto Saturday, during which Griffin hit the assistant equipment manager a few times.
ESPN’s report indicated Griffin and the staff member were both sent home from the road trip.
If his hand injury is confirmed as a fracture it will mean a further absence of several weeks, possibly ruling him out of next month’s all-star game.
Griffin has not yet played since he sustained a torn quadriceps in the Clippers’ Christmas Day win over the LA Lakers, but he had been hoping to return to the court during this road trip.
While speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Clippers head coach Doc Rivers called the incident “frustrating” and a “distraction” while the team is doing its best to stay competitive in the Western Conference, notes ESPN.
The Clippers are in IN on Tuesday night and Atlanta on Wednesday.
Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul, right, acknowledges forward Blake Griffin after Griffin scored during the second half of an NBA basketball game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, in Los Angeles.
The equipment staff member involved in the altercation has not been fired, a team spokesman said.
This isn’t the first time that Griffin has made headlines for his allegedly violent behavior.
It was not immediately known whether Testi would pursue legal action against Griffin or the Clippers. He was charged with battery, after getting into a fight with a person in Las Vegas, after Griffin was upset with the individual taking photos inside of a club.
“Four to six weeks with a broken hand is unrealistic, I’ll tell you that”, Rivers told reporters before the Clippers took on the Pacers in Indiana.
Griffin was averaging 23.2 points a game this season.
