President Obama Joins ’96 Bulls/Current Warriors Debate With A Clever One-Liner
NBA MVP Stephen Curry and the reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors visited the White House Thursday, as they were honored for their win in last season’s NBA Finals over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Obama, who has made curbing gun violence a priority, noted in his remarks in the East Room of the White House that the Warriors “had players take a stand” against it, prompting applause from the crowd.
The city of Oakland opened its arms to an estimated million revelers on Friday, showering the beloved Golden State Warriors with love and adoration after the basketball team won the NBA championship.
On Draymond Green, Obama said that the 6-7 forward has been “showing us heart over height every single night”.
Obama also gave Warriors assistant Luke Walton props for leading Golden State to a 39-4 mark as Kerr sat out the season’s first half following complications from an offseason surgery.
This wasn’t Stephen Curry’s first White House visit, nor the first time meeting the United States President Barack Obama. Obama is a basketball enthusiast who said at a White House reception that the Warriors are one of the best teams “we’ve ever seen”. Head coach Steve Kerr is at center.
Coming off a 134-121 win Wednesday against the Washington Wizards – during which he scored 51 points – Curry said there was a little extra pep in the game knowing he was going to be recognized by Obama.
“Maybe you’ll break that Bulls record.”
The team gave Obama, an admitted Chicago Bulls fan, a jersey, noting he’ll be a “free agent” next year and he’s invited to be the leader of Dub Nation.
The Aussie later retweeted a photo of the team surrounding Obama.
Riley is so A-list, that even President Obama can’t get an interview with her!
“Let’s face it, the Warriors are in the middle of a very special two-year run”, Obama continued his praise for the team.
