Louis van Gaal ‘doesn’t believe’ reports linking Mourinho with Manchester United
United’s refusal to dismiss reports that they have held talks with Mourinho over succeeding Van Gaal appeared to confirm that the wheels are in motion for the Portuguese tactician to take over at Old Trafford, but the current United boss is ignoring the speculation.
United took the lead through Jesse Lingard just past the hour-mark but Costa turned home early in injury time to preserve the champions’ unbeaten run under Guus Hiddink.
It is more frustrating they scored in extra time and how they scored because Daley Blind slipped more or less.
“But I am frustrated when you play like we did but we are not making the gap at the top smaller”.
“We have the feeling, and that’s because we are winning twice in a row and with sparkling football – with goals and cleans sheets, against opponents who were in great form”.
Louis van Gaal lost his cool with a journalist during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw at Chelsea on Sunday.
For most of the past decade this fixture has been one of the highlights of the season, and often a potential a title-decider, but with both teams off the pace this season, there was a subdued atmosphere at the ground in the first half.
The Red Devils manager also expressed his anger at fourth official Craig Pawson at the end of the final whistle over referee Michael Oliver’s decision to end the match when his side were about to stage a counter attack.
The Dutchman said: “I have already played Mata in the same role”. And then I have to answer this question. “So I also hope to get the support of the media this week”. “But for sure, I will be back soon”, Mourinho said. And we could have scored after the first goal, but you don’t reward yourselves when you play such a game against a fantastic team like Chelsea.
United dominated the match at the Bridge, but a Diego Costa goal late in the day denied them maximum points. He did that in the first half as well, maybe you remember that, so I think you can not do that. “After that we’d win 4-0, 5-0, 4-1, 6-1”, he said.
“Okay, okay, so you haven’t spoken to Ed Woodward or the Glazers, so you are inventing this story”. And now you think it’s gone 180 degrees? Then I can announce the name also’.
“Okay, write what you want to write”, Van Gaal said. “It was a great response, we’ve shown that character since the manager came in and that’s good to see”.
