Scott Kelly Hosted a Super Bowl Party in Outer Space
A photo taken by NASA astronaut Scott Kelly showing a broadcast of the Super Bowl 50 aboard the International Space Station, February 7, 2016. It’s unfortunate too, as Kelly exclaimed that he “would’ve served nachos!”.
He also shared an incredible snap of the Levi’s stadium in Santa Clara, California – which hosts the biggest event in the USA sporting calender this year – from space.
The American astronaut is not alone on the ISS, which hosts six crew members in total, but it appears as if Kelly’s Super Bowl party wasn’t a hit on the space station.
Kelly tweeting from Space that no one showed must pull at your heartstrings.
Even so, he wasn’t about to miss out on Super Bowl 50. It likely wasn’t a great party, but it was certainly a very unique one with bland snacks, but one of the best views there is in the world. Kelly and cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko are within four weeks of the end of their yearlong mission, and the two are now joined by Kopra, British astronaut Tim Peake, and cosmonauts Yuri Malenchenko and Sergey Volkov.
However, Kelly seems to be keeping his spirits up in spite of the isolation away from his family and harsh conditions.
Kelly is a Houston Texans fan, so we don’t know quite how we felt about the result.
The West Orange native posted a picture on Twitter of the game being shown on the ISS.
