Arsenal Striker Impressed With Benik Afobe’s Progress
“I’m in the Premier League now scoring goals so at the end of the day I’m happy”. It was their decision to sell me and I have moved on.
The new £9m striker has scored crucial goals against Norwich, Sunderland and Crystal Palace in each of the last three games to bag his team those seven points – proof that he really has made a huge difference in just a few short weeks.
Arsenal reject Benik Afobe warned there will be “no friends” on Sunday when he bids to pile more title misery on the Gunners.
The former Arsenal youth product has three goals in his last three games for the Cherries ahead of welcoming his old club, who have dropped to fourth in the Premier League table, to the south coast.
The 22-year-old never featured for Arsenal and was loaned to six clubs before sealing a permanent transfer to Championship team Wolverhampton Wanderers a year ago.
After failing to break into the first team at Arsenal, Benik Afobe says he has moved on from his time at the Emirates.
‘We are used to facing these kind of strikers in the Premier League because in every single club there are top-quality strikers. “They’ve played a big part in the way I play football and helped me progress as a player”.
Afobe makes his return to his boyhood club this weekend, and though he has insisted that he holds no grudges, he confirmed that he will be doing everything he can to keep all three points out of the Gunners’ hands.
‘I believe Benik has done extremely well, even beyond expectations of many people and that’s great; that’s down to him and congratulations to him’. It’s been years now – I would have liked to have got my chance there, but it didn’t happen.
Wenger said he will remain supportive of the man who has been at the club for 10 years but admits he is unsure exactly how long the former Borussia Dortmund man will be sidelined for.
“They have been massively responsible because I was there from when I was six”.
“You know where you come from so after you might be more ready to face difficulties at the highest level”. I’m trying to do it quietly, I’m going to try to keep improving.
Pardew brought his January signing on anyway and although he didn’t manage to score, Adebayor felt his showing proved his fitness.
