See How Peyton Manning Has Changed Since His First Super Bowl
Denver was on the verge of becoming the first team in the 50-year history of the Super Bowl to win without scoring a touchdown on offense.
Peyton Manning goes out a victor if he elects to retire (still figuring it out), but this game was all about the defense. Cam Newton is 8/19 for 95 yards. “We dropped balls. We turned the ball over”.
After going 15-1 during the regular season, then winning two postseason games, Newton and the Panthers lost Super Bowl 50 in a shocking upset to the Denver Broncos, 24-10.
“Our defense has just been, from the get-go, they’ve been nothing but awesome”, said Manning, who completed 13-of-23 passes for 141 yards and an interception before dodging questions about his future. The Broncos punted it back to the Panthers, giving Newton a chance to be a hero and putting it on their No. 1 defense to win the most important game of the season. They did just that.
And they did the same to a Panthers team that had previously seemed unstoppable, clinching a third Super Bowl title with their win at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday.

Miller – who played his high school football at DeSoto High School and played college ball at Texas A&M – had six tackles and was a nuisance to Newton all night, flushing him out of the pocket.
A sea of Denver Broncos had just chased a beleaguered Cam Newton around his own end zone one more time, and Carolina coach Ron Rivera had seen enough.
It was a disappointing finish for Carolina. Broncos defensive tackle Malik Jackson recovered the ball in the end zone and gave Denver its first touchdown of the game. “They were in the right place at the right time and obviously allowed me to be able to be in the right place at the right time and catch an interception”, Ealy said. And at 39, he’s the oldest quarterback to start in a Super Bowl, too.
Taking advantage of a missed field goal attempt by Carolina placekicker Graham Gano, the Broncos moved down the field during their first possession in the second half before McManus kicked a 30-yard field goal to give Denver a 16-7 lead with 8:18 remaining in the third quarter.
And, showing his versatility, the 6-foot-3, 250-pound Miller even made plays in pass coverage, dropping back to force an incompletion from Newton to Jerricho Cotchery.
After one final fumble inside the 10-yard line by Newton and the Panthers, CJ Anderson ran it in from two yards out and that was basically the icing on the cake for Denver.
