Tyler, The Creator Banned from Australia Says ‘Cherry Bomb’ Rapper

Tyler the Creator claims he’s been banned from touring Australia.

According to Tyler’s Twitter, Collective Shout may have succeeded in their mission.

The petition, addressed to Immigration Minister Peter Dutton, follows Collective Shout’s 2013 campaign against Tyler and a successful rally across the ditch to have him banned from performing in New Zealand. If true that would force the cancellation of his September tour which had him scheduled to perform in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.

It’s days like today that can really make a person hate the internet: fans of US entertainer Tyler, The Creator are threatening to “destroy” an Australian activist over a ban from the country that doesn’t even (yet) exist.

A controversial rap artist accused of inciting riots and preaching violence against women says he has been banned from Australia.

The rapper’s tour is still listed as active on the Frontier Touring website and none of the venues involved with the tour have issued a statement. The member reported Tyler to the police. At the time, a group called Collective Shout called for the rapper’s visa to be taken away and his shows to be cancelled on the grounds that his lyrics incite hatred against women. The statement made it clear that freedom of speech is not absolute when it comes to visitors to Australia who have a “responsibility to avoid vilification of, inciting discord in, or representing a danger to, the Australian community”. The Australian Government supports freedom of speech.
