New Jersey braces for more coastal flooding
A winter storm watch has also been issued with the potential for 4 to 8 inches of snow, with rain mixing with snow closer to the coast.
The storm began to slide by the tri-state early Monday, replacing Sunday’s sunny skies with a low steely gray ceiling over New York City and most of the region.
A coastal flood warning is in effect in eastern Monmouth and Ocean counties, along with the rest of the coast until at least 10 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service said conditions are expected to improve overnight.
The storm surge is expected to be as high as 2 and a half feet.
“The storm is moving pretty fast, and that’s in our favor”, Thomas said.
The low pressure system will pass over DE by Tuesday afternoon.
Slick commutes are possible Tuesday, both in the morning and afternoon.
Several inches of snow are possible in the Philadelphia region starting Monday tonight, with parts of the New Jersey coast already seeing flooding from a separate storm system.
Cope was clear that the flooding will again be nothing in comparison to what hit the state in mid-January but there’s concern all the same.
A Coastal Flood Watch is in effect until Tuesday at 1 p.m. The watch calls for “widespread minor coastal flooding” with localized moderate flooding in certain areas.
