Here come the ads of Super Bowl 50 – upbeat and safe
He and the other two finalists were invited to the game, and he only found out he won when he saw his commercial air during the broadcast.
Another way that Super Bowl commercials can bring value to a company is by increasing its stock price. Another advertiser, Unilever’s Dove Men + Care, opted this year to run video ads on Twitter and on ESPN’s National Football League page. And watch for surprise ads from Amazon, Coca-Cola, and Chrysler during the big game. The heartstring-yanking ad can be assumed to be their attempt at repositioning themselves as a compassionate, health-and-wellness-focused company while quietly putting the microbead fiasco in perspective with a global scope.
Honda chose to skip actors – its pickup truck commercial features a flock of sheep singing rock group Queen’s song “Somebody to Love”.
Steve Harvey’s jab at his own Miss Universe flub pays off. He announces there’s been a mistake – but this time around, it’s not his fault!
Feb 7 PepsiCo Inc’s Doritos brand and Allstate Corp’s Esurance unit were early winners on social media in the annual high-stakes battle of Super Bowl commercials. A cameo appearance by Paul Rudd increases the commercial’s appeal. That has led some to find the Super Bowl ads released so far lacking. For its Genesis sedan, an ad with comic Kevin Hart following his daughter on a date highlighted the “car finder” tracking feature; the Elantra’s remote start was featured in a spot with campers chased by bears.
McKee says he was partial to Audi ad using the astronaut. “All the demographics were right, and he was believable as a retired astronaut. It was both creative and strategic”. With a growing digital audience seeking out commercials days before Super Bowl Sunday, the advertisers seemed to try a little less hard in 2016 – probably because extra effort is no longer a necessity. Not the most efficient method, but helpful if you’re mobile or only want to catch certain commercials (this year’s Mountain Dew commercial, for example, which is hilarious and weird).
And Mountain Dew takes weirdness to a new level with a “Puppymonkeybaby” – pretty much exactly what it sounds like – mascot in an ad for its Kickstart drink. “Every guy in the bar had a smile on their face”, he said.
“Crash the Super Bowl” began in 2006, when consumers – for the first time in history – were invited to create and submit 30-second homemade ads whose sole objective was to extol their devotion to the Doritos brand. A third tackled toe fungus.

In first time advertiser Henkel’s commercial for its Persil ProClean detergent, a tuxedoed spokesman told us that Persil ProClean beat rival detergents in a test – a generic-feeling ad people have seen many, many times before.
