Movie Trailers Dominated The Super Bowl Ads!
Not everybody watches the Super Bowl exclusively for the action on the football field.
It might not be a sequel, but it is a movie about the Egyptian Gods, played, to the dismay of many, by nearly entirely white actors.
We rounded up all of the movies that had a presence on Super Bowl Sunday, and have provided a quick checklist of release dates as well. But outside of a sequence during one of the red-band trailers, I don’t remember laughing much during any of the previews. That movie title is on point! Well, okay. That isn’t even the most random thing we’ve seen so far from this movie’s rollout phase. This trailer could’ve been five seconds long, for all I care.
Haven’t the Beastie Boys suffered enough?
The people that had been requesting a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel – you at the back there – were rejoicing at the sight of Raphael, Michelangelo, Leonardo and the other one giving ’em shell in an action-packed spot for Out Of The Shadows. Here we see Nightcrawler facing off against Angel.
But I digress. In the “Superb Owl” TV spot for Deadpool, Reynolds’ Wade Wilson discusses how he wished he was a professional athlete so he could have children in cities all over the world. The laughs may be cheap, but there’s something inherently amusing about a French poodle thrashing to speed metal as soon as his master leaves home for the day.
Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, the latest sequel in the new version of the X-Men franchise series. That savvy bit of synergy helped to distract from the fact that this clip didn’t offer many compelling new morsels from the mutant battle royale. Her attack on Apocalypse doesn’t look like it goes very well either, but “A” for effort there Mystique.
To that end, several major upcoming movies debuted trailers during the “Big Game” last night (Feb. 7). And yes, we’ve talked about it a lot. The left hook Bourne that drops at the end is nothing if not well earned.
10 Cloverfield Lane is out in a month and we only found out about it three weeks ago, so it needs all the attention it can get. 10 Cloverfield Lane cast – Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman (famous for portraying Dan Conner on the ABC TV series Roseanne) and actor/musician John Gallagher, Jr.
Super Bowl spots never come cheap, but this year they cost more than ever: up to $5 million for a 30-second spot, according to reports. Let’s just quit while we’re ahead. The new trailer introduces Bill Murray as Baloo the bear, Christopher Walken as King Louie the orangutan and Ben Kinsgley as Bagheera the panther. Wisely fighting back against the grim aesthetic of the film’s trailers, these clever blasts of corporate synergy sparkle with bright colors and heavy dollops of optimism. Pretty sure I read that somewhere a time or two.
