Cam Newton walks out of news conference
Von Miller’s future is looking bright, especially now that he can add “Super Bowl 50 MVP” to his resumé.
Actually, Rivera ordered a punt on fourth down.
The parade continues a tradition that started in 1987 with then-New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms after he was selected as the MVP of Super Bowl XXI, which was played at the Rose Bowl.
So is it time for Manning to take off his helmet for the final time?
Manning did not lose the game, and that can be quite the recipe for winning.
Not that it mattered.
On top of his game and now the world, Von Miller’s docket is quickly filling up.
They scored when Manning couldn’t.
Miller set the tone for his awesome performance in the first quarter, when Miller hit Carolina quarterback Cam Newton with a huge strip sack that resulted in a loose ball.
Manning wouldn’t say after the game whether this was his final one. It’s only fitting it turned out that way. “But I’m just really proud of him as a man”.
As Newton went down, the ball squirted out and bounced into the end zone, where Denver defensive end Malik Jackson fell on it for the game’s first touchdown. They couldn’t wait to toss flags when players jawed at each other, and they still can’t figure out what a catch is as evidenced by the unsuccessful challenge two plays earlier of a catch by Jerricho Cotchery that wasn’t.
On Saturday night Newton earned the NFL Offensive Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards for his standout 2015 season.
Coming into the game it was no secret that the Broncos defense was a dominant one – evidenced by their play both in the regular season and in the playoffs where they got the better of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots – but whilst the Panthers offense grabbed the headlines in the build-up the Broncos showed true to the theory that defenses do win Championships. Kubiak is the first to win a Super Bowl as player and coach for the same team.
That was as talkative as Newton got, and when he was asked about what sympathy he had for his teammates, he simply stood without a word, left the podium and retreated to the locker room.
What followed was an odd exchange where Newton declined to answer several questions in a two-minute session that was in some ways reminiscent of Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch’s press silence a year ago. We gave up sacks. He had a 42.7 passer rating at half-time and a 56.6 mark for the game.
We’re going to enjoy this for a little while, but we’ll get back to work, and we plan on being right back in there, [being] competitive.
“He didn’t have to go out there and do it all on his own, and he knew that”, Kubiak said.
