Runner-up drama: Trump says Cruz ‘stole’ Iowa election; Sanders mulls challenge
Donald Trump on Wednesday accused Sen. Taking a victory lap in New Hampshire, Cruz attributed his caucus win to a “grassroots army”.
“Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa Caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified”, he tweeted.
“It is no surprise that Donald is throwing yet another temper-tantrum, or if you like, yet another Trumpertantrum”, Cruz said.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is accusing rival Ted Cruz of stealing the Iowa caucuses and is demanding a do-over.
Asked about his ground game at his campaign headquarters Thursday, Trump appeared content to stay his course.
“Bernie is contesting #IA results”. “But at the end of the day the people of Iowa spoke. They actually looked at his record”.
“The Voter Violation certificate gave poor marks to the unsuspecting voter (grade of F) and told them to clear it up by voting for Cruz”, Trump tweeted.
In the latest CNN Poll of Polls, Trump led Cruz 31 percent to 13 percent with third finisher Florida senator Marco Rubio at 11 percent. He ended up 3 percentage points behind Cruz in the final tally. By Wednesday night, he was insisting that Cruz “illegally stole” Iowa and calling for a do-over, though there was no evidence to support his case.
Carson had tweeted his feelings about the Iowa vote on Tuesday. In the Democratic race, edging out Sanders by the narrowest margin of just four votes (701-697) for the top spot in Monday night’s Iowa caucuses, Clinton downplayed her rival’s strong performance with young voters as her campaign spun it as a historic win.
The retired medical professional indeed went back to Florida, but just to get some fresh new clothes for the upcoming days. The Cruz campaign informed Iowa precinct captains while the caucuses were underway that Carson was taking a break and suggested that he was suspending his campaign. Carson has called the comments “dirty tricks”. Cruz later apologized for the email. “Evaluate people on what they do, how they treat other people”. “It was yet another example of creating rather than reporting the news, and it’s wrong”.
“My girls are 5 and 7, and I gotta tell you, Caroline and Catherine are better behaved than a presidential candidate”, Cruz said campaigning in New Hampshire.
“That was a news story CNN had posted, and our political team passed it on to our supporters”.
“I like Ben Carson very much”, Trump told Cooper. That accurate report was disseminated on television and CNN digital.
“I’m going to trademark that before he does”. “And that was BS”. I mean, I think we’re going to do well. “There is no place for this kind of behavior”.
Carson defended himself, but wouldn’t go as far as to call the Cruz caucus rumor fraud. “Now, if (Cruz) agrees with it, he doesn’t need to make changes….”
Rubio wavered in defending his decision to walk away from the sweeping immigration bill he originally backed in the Senate – perhaps the legislation he’s most closely associated with – and said he wouldn’t pursue similar legislation as president.
