Nintendo’s First Phone App Coming Soon
Miitomo is described by Nintendo as being a “social experience”, one that uses the Wii’s Mii character system to create a world of safe online chit chat. Users will be able to ask each other bonkers questions such as “if you saw a nose hair sticking out of you friend’s nose, what would you do?”. Nintendo will launch its new Rewards Programme – which replaces Club Nintendo – alongside Miitomo in March. Nintendo will offer a special Miitomo bonus to anyone who signs up for a Nintendo Account between February 17 and launch.
The My Nintendo program will launch just in time for the release of Nintendo’s first mobile app “Miitomo”. “Platinum Points” will be awarded for playing the company’s mobile apps, logging into the Nintendo eShop, or meeting certain other conditions.
“Miimoto” is the first of approximately five smart applications planned by the big N to be released by the end of March 2017.
Yesterday, Nintendo revealed that its second iOS and Android app would feature a “familiar character” and that it would be an actual game.
Users can earn Platinum and Gold Points, which can be exchanged for digital content or discount coupons for the Nintendo eShop respectively. Wait, no more Mario caps and frivolous Nintendo toys, a la Club Nintendo?
Nintendo has been famously reluctant to explore the mobile market with any of its well-known video game brands, but the company finally broke down and admitted it would explore smartphones and tablets as platforms for some of its work.
It’s a strong statement, but not because it has to do with a known Nintendo video game property.
Miitomo also has a newly announced feature, Miifoto, allowing you to take photos of your Miis, and use them outside the app, as wallpapers and profile pictures.
The user ID system Nintendo Account and rewards program My Nintendo will roll out to 39 countries in March, Nintendo told investors during a shareholder briefing today.
