Mark Hamill Confirmed to Voice the Joker for The Killing Joke Film
Just weeks after news erupted that “The Killing Joke” was going to be made an animated film, Mark Hamill is now confirmed to reprise his role as the voice of Batsy’s old-time nemesis, the Joker. The story’s effects on the mainstream Batman continuity also included the shooting and paralysis of Barbara Gordon (a.k.a. Batgirl), an event that laid the groundwork for her to develop the identity of Oracle. First of all, I want say that I absolutely love Mark Hamill as The Joker.
And yet, for all the accolades those guys received – Ledger most of all – many still consider Mark Hamill’s voice-acting turn as The Joker (in Batman: The Animated Series, three of the four Arkham video games, etc.) to be the most iconic and memorable.
After previously announcing he had retired his voice for the character, Hamill tweeted his enthusiasm for the role and said he would be happy to play him again. Still, Geek Tyrant reported that the direct-to-video animated films made by Warner Bros. are usually hit or miss, but with the two legendary voice actors potentially attached onto the project and the resource material already filled with fail-safe plot points, there is very little space for Warner Bros.to make a mistake. In 2006, The Killing Joke was reprinted as part of the trade paperbackDC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore.
This isn’t the first time Hamill has brought his Joker out of retirement, either, since he announced his planned retirement of voicing Batman’s archnemesis to us in 2010. Written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Brian Bolland in the late 1980s, the story became famous for offering a possible origin story for the Joker.
The Killing Joke animated movie is slated for release in 2016.
