Beyoncé set to start ‘Formation’ world tour in April
Beyonce is arguably the only pop star who can drop a new song the night before a big performance, and the majority of the country knows all the words.
“I think that you’re hard-pressed to find that demonstrative an example of performative blackness on stage, on such a high profile stage”, said Damon Young, editor in chief of the website www.verysmartbrothas.com, on Monday.
The 34-year-old singer splashed out the huge amount on Airbnb for the 12-acre estate in Los Altos Hills, California, ahead of her performance at the halftime show at Levi Stadium with Coldplay and Bruno Mars on Sunday (02.07.16).
King condemned the video, released by the Grammy-winning singer ahead of her world tour and her performance during halftime of Sunday’s Super Bowl.
Another commenter wrote: “Beyonce, who is protecting you at the halftime show since you hate cops and white people?”. They subtly conveyed the themes of “Formation” with female dancers dressed in black shorts, crop tops and berets, in what was perceived as homage to the Black Nationalist Black Panther Party movement of the 1960s and 70s.
But what I didn’t notice is Beyonce’s strong political statement to the Black Panthers and the Black Lives Matter Movement.
I also didn’t directly connect the dancers raising their fists in the air in a gesture referencing the black power salute by Tommie Smith and John Carlos at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.
But this one is getting more political heat than Beyonce is used to.
Beyonce’s Super Bowl halftime performance of her new single, “Formation,” has received a large amount of post-game attention, stemming not from a reaction to its artistry, but the political message it apparently contained. “The halftime show I thought was ridiculous anyway”, Giuliani said shortly before launching into his critique. A bunch of people bouncing around and all the odd things.
I love that Beyonce’s dancers are giving us Black Panther chic.
During the medley of hits, Beyonce unveiled the new single “Formation”, which is conveniently also the title of her new world tour.
