Offbeat humour and upbeat messages dominate Super Bowl 50 ads

The Doritos Super Bowl ad was met with mixed responses after it was aired on Sunday night. Some of the most searched terms during the Super Bowl included Beyoncé performing “Formation”, Lady Gaga performing The National Anthem, Jonathan Stewart scores touchdown, Brandon McManus scores field goal and C.J. Anderson scores touchdown.

The Super Bowl Babies Choir performed a remix of Seal’s famous love song “Kiss from a Rose” in one of Super Bowl 50’s most memorable ads. Some of the commercials will make viewers laugh, while others can leave you feeling horribly sad. Instead, numerous top commercials featured celebrity appearances.
The Ad Meter voting results for “Ultrasound” show it being just a tad more popular with men than women, and with those 50 and older, as compared with other demographics voting on the ad, but almost equally popular among all income groups.
YouTube created the AdBlitz program nine years from now so users could watch some teasers before the game and the ads themselves as they got released during the game.

Instead of slapstick-focused ads or racy messages this year, advertisers are trying to break out with empowering and even heartfelt messages. Last year’s ad starred Jeff Bridges meditating in a couple’s bedroom that was deemed by some as too esoteric. Super Bowl advertisers are turning to a mix of tried-and-true crowd pleasers for the game’s 50th anniversary.
