Lupita Nyong’o in talks to star in sci-fi thriller
Despite having been offered to helm Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time”, she would be able to do both because there is no conflicting schedule.
According to Deadline, Selma director Ava DuVernay has been offered the gig of directing the live-action feature adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time by Disney. The sci-fi fantasy adventure follows a young girl whose father, a government scientist, has mysteriously vanished after working on something called a tesseract. Needless to say, on the all-too-rare occasion that those two elements converge in the same project, I am all-in. The worker – a man – falls in love with an enigmatic woman, who is revealed to be an alien herself. The film is said to be similar to Trevorrow’s “Safety Not Guaranteed”.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the 32-year-old Oscar-winner is in negotiations to join the cast of the sci-fi film titled Intelligent Life. Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow and his collaborator Derek Connolly wrote the script. Frank Marshall is producing with Trevorrow as well as production banner Big Beach.
The pursuit of DuVernay for this particular project is particularly sweet, especially in light of past comments by Treverrow, saying that women don’t direct more action movies, because they’re not really that interested.
“Intelligent Life” was set up a year ago at DreamWorks. A lot has happened between then and now, with the filmmaker taking the reins on LucasFilm’s Star Wars: Episode IX. Hence the search for a new director.
After her studio break-out Selma proved to be one of 2014’s best films, Ava DuVernay has been courted for a number of projects, but has yet to decide on one yet.
