Of 4 Firefighters Injured In Nevada County Fire Remains In Hospital

State fire spokeswoman Lynne Tolmachoff says the fire is moving quickly through heavy timber, torching drought-stricken trees and sending sparks a half-mile ahead of the fire front.

Three of the firefighters have been released, while one firefighter is still in the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

ALTA, Calif. (AP) — Four firefighters were burned Sunday while battling a Northern California wildfire that threatens 150 homes in the Sierra Nevada foothills.

Almost 800 firefighters are taming the blaze that began 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Nevada County.

The Lake Solano campground is closed due to fire equipment access.

Mandatory evacuations are ordered in the You Bet, Red Dog, and Chalk Bluff area.

A wildfire continues to burn just north of I-80 in Nevada and Placer counties. To date, an outbuilding and a tent trailer have been destroyed, and one unspecified structure has been damaged.

On Sunday evening, two CAL FIRE and two U.S. Forest Service firefighters were injured as they battled the Lowell Fire in Nevada County.

Firefighters gained ground against a wildfire near Napa Valley wine country that was 70 percent contained. The fire is 5 percent contained.

Thanks to mild temperatures over the weekend, a lack of high wind and effective response by firefighters, the fires did not cause widespread destruction of property.

Paul Petersen, BLM’s acting state fire management officer for Nevada, said the cameras provide incident commanders better intelligence when allocating air tankers and other precious resources, especially when stretched thin during peak fire season. As of Sunday night, the blaze was 65% contained and all evacuation orders were lifted.

“Upon the initial report we were able to move the camera and identify the fire”, he says.

In Humboldt County, the Queen fire has torn through 200 acres since it ignited early Saturday near the Klamath River.
