Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds pose on ‘Deadpool’ throne
The irreverent, violent, foul-mouthed superhero Deadpool is about to hit cinemas.
The Deadpool movie, as unusual as it may seem with its final marketing push in full steam, happened largely because star Ryan Reynolds wanted it so badly.
Speaking to Filmstarts, Reynolds explained that with Deadpool’s (anticipated) success, there’ll be room for Fox to explore the X-Men universe they hold all the rights to, and for him, that means X-Force is on the table. “And maybe X-Force. X-Force is really my priority. There’s nothing else, there’s nothing you can do just sort of grin and bear it go, ‘Alright guys, we’re all gonna really get to know each other today!” They first appeared the 100th issue of Marvel’s X-Men spinoff comic The New Mutants in 1991, and have gone on to include such heroes as Cyclops, Psylocke, Wolverine, Storm, and Colossus, as well as Deadpool.
“There was a lot of me there”, Reynolds said, referring to his nude scene.
Reynolds will play the unstable mercenary in the standalone film Deadpool, which opens in theaters Friday.
“Kick-Ass 2” director Jeff Wadlow was previously asked by Fox to write a script for an X-Force movie but before it got off the ground, footage for “Deadpool” leaked online and Fox fast-tracked development on the Tim Miller-directed film after seeing the reaction the teaser got.
