‘Error 53’ bricking iPhones with third-party repairs
The other perplexing issue is that some have reported Error 53 problems without subjecting their iPhones to any kind of third-party repairs whatsoever.
The biggest problem is for those who damage the home button from dropping their phone (or other ways) that damages the touch ID system.
Apple says that faulty screens may cause the check to fail, leaving users with no way to recover from the predictable issue. The report states that customers can expect trade-in values around $50 for an iPhone 5S, $200 for a 6 and $250 for a 6 Plus respectively.
What is Error 53 and why does it occur?
Last week, some criticised the company for integrating a new security error that shuts phones down if they detect that they have been tampered with.
The company announced that the error is part of the strong security checks to protect customers. This way no one can access your device and potentially private data, including the cards you have linked to Apple Pay. “When iOS finds an unidentified or unexpected Touch ID module, the check fails”. The Touch ID, if replaced, will need to be re-paired and re-validated with the motherboard and this can only be done by Apple’s authorised service centres.
One not just loses their handset but all their necessary information as well because it is non-recoverable. If the screen protector is not installed properly, the corporation will likely provide a replacement and reinstallation service free of charge.
Since then, numerous iPhone users have described similar experiences on Twitter and Apple’s online support forums. Your iPhone is bricked and you will not be able to do anything with it. If you are facing such an issue, we suggest that you contact Apple Support as soon as possible. With subsequent restores and updates, additional security checks usually result in error 53’s being displayed on the screen. Meanwhile, third-party fix stores, replace the display for less than half of that.
Understandably, this mysterious security doesn’t sit well with many users who often seek help from non-Apple technicians rather than going to Apple centers to get their iPhones fixed.
Why such Hue and Cry over Error 53?
As the Wall Street Journal points out, some customers have gone to the Apple Store only to be turned away as the error message was like “the plague”, and the unauthorized repairs had voided the device’s warranty.
