This Sports Illustrated Model Just Made History
This is a dream come true, ‘ she wrote. Aside from giving us even more body envy with her second spread in SI, Graham has also landed four campaigns this month alone, serving as the face for Addition Elle’s latest sportswear collection, NYDJ’s “Fit to Be” campaign, and swimsuitsforall’s inspiring, new #SwimSexy campaign that will also be featured in the SI 2016 Swimsuit issue.
For the first time, Sports Illustrated will allow readers to vote for their favorite rookie model in this year’s swimsuit issue, guaranteeing the victor a spot next year.
In February 2015, a model from Nebraska made history when she appeared as the first-ever truly plus size model in an ad in Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit edition.
Last year Robyn Lawley, a size 12, broke the SI swimsuit mold. Graham confirmed the news Tuesday through an Instagram post by sharing a picture from her shoot.
“It’s official – I’m a @si_swimsuit model!! Stay tune for voting instructions”. She exudes confidence and as Conley stated on her blog, Graham is “sexy with a purpose”.
She’s not the first model in the issue’s history who is considered plus-sized, but her inclusion signals a trend for the 52-year-old tradition.
Graham, 28, also has her own line of lingerie and is the co-founder of a group for larger models. At this point, there is no stopping her now!
We wouldn’t usually think of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue as a place for body positivity, but one ad campaign is changing that.
