Ikea recalls ceiling lamps for risk of falling glass shades
IKEA is recalling two ceiling lamps because plastic retaining clips that secure the glass shades to the lamp housings can break and allow the glass shades to fall.
“Ikea takes product safety very seriously”. Three incidents with no injuries were reported in the U.S. All our products are tested to comply with applicable testing standards and legislations.
“In spite of this we have received reports that Lock and Hyby ceiling lamp shades have fallen”.
The Hyby and Lock ceiling lamps have been sold in all IKEA markets since 2012 and 2002 respectively, while the Rinna product has not been sold in Singapore.
Ikea on Tuesday apologized for the inconvenience and said customers don’t need to produce a receipt to prove purchase of the items for a refund.
Ikea said customers should immediately return uninstalled Lock or Hyby lights for a full refund.
IKEA is a leading home furnishing retailer with 375 stores in more than 50 countries worldwide, which are visited by 884 million people every year.
“Customers should not remove the product themselves”, the company said.
