Apple TV shows new features including voice dictation
It can be a pain in the sitter to input text on most of these devices and often they leave you wishing for voice dictation.
Apple’s earlier 9.3 beta introduced Night Shift and new 3D Touch shortcuts to various Apple apps, including fast access to Bluetooth, WiFi and Battery settings in the Settings app. The release also introduced support for Touch ID-secured Notes. iPhone 6S users will gain new Quick Actions for Weather, Settings, Compass, Health, App Store, and iTunes Store.
When the new Apple TV was announced, the inclusion of Siri was a strong selling point – too bad it turned out to suck.
The third beta version of Apple TV operating system tvOS 9.2, launched Monday for third-party developers, includes voice dictation. Dictation isn’t just useful for searching, but can also be used for entering user names and passwords, which should bring a sigh of relief to anyone who has struggled to enter a long password using the remote. After Apple TV was launched, the main complaint from users with the fourth-generation device was text entry.
The feature can be found in tvOS software starting with version 9.2 (beta 3). It means you’ll be able to dictate text in search boxes rather than clicking laboriously to use the on-screen keyboard.
We’re quite certain that we’ll see at least one more beta before tvOS 9.2 is rolled out to everyone around the globe. First, the Apple TV interface will be getting a pair of notable changes. The budget iPhone is rumored to be called the iPhone 5se and is said to look like an iPhone 5 with some iPhone 6 features including the updated A9 chip, Apple Pay support, and some software updates. This should help reduce the clutter and scrolling needed to navigate your installed apps on the Apple TV home screen. tvOS 9.2 will also bring back Bluetooth keyboard support to the Apple TV so users can type text into fields using a physical keyboard.
