Florida teen killed after cousin falls off hoverboard while holding gun
A boy in Florida has died after his cousin fell from a hoverboard causing a gun to fire, hitting him in the head.
Fisher was visiting a relative’s home with two 18-year-olds when one of the older teens found a gun in a bedroom and started playing with it.
He was in critical condition when he arrived at the hospital and wasn’t breathing, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office determined.
The gun owner, Walter Morame, wasn’t home when the incident occurred, but was arrested Sunday for possessing a weapon as a felon.
According to the police report, Louis was riding the hoverboard with the gun in his hand when it “went off” as he lost his balance.
Investigators have stressed the fact that Morame was not in the home during the shooting.
Deputies say the cousin told deputies he didn’t mean to shoot the gun.
Fisher’s cousins, Brandon Louis, who fired the fatal shot, and Widmaer Morame, both 18, originally told police a story about another teen shooting him, WFTV-TV reports. As of Tuesday, the 18-year-old had not been charged in connection to his cousin’s death, the Sentinel reported.
Fisher was an eighth grader at Ocoee Middle School and played football for the Ocoee Bulldogs, earning the honor of Pop Warner All-American scholar previous year.
“When you think of Lavardo, you think, ‘This is the kid I want my daughter to marry, this is the kid I want my daughter to go to prom with, ‘” Lo Wood, Lavardo’s football coach, told the newspaper. “When it gets to that point, something has to be done”, Wood said.
Deputies said three older mentally challenged women were in a different room of the home when the gun went off. And when it gets down to kids, that’s insane.
