Rivera makes up tortured excuse for Cam Newton

In the wake of Cam Newton’s Super Bowl 50 loss, former Denver Broncos player Bill Romanowski took it as a moment to insult the Carolina Panthers quarterback.

The Panthers fell to the Broncos, 24-10, Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., and after the loss, Newton wasn’t at all interested in addressing the media. But I know the setup in that auxiliary news conference area and I’ve watched the video several times.

Newton has yet to respond to the Hall of Famer’s comments. “I wish he would have came out and just said, ‘You know what, I was wrong”.

Cam Newton went full “For what, for who?” on Ron Rivera and the rest of the Panthers. Why are athletes seen differently than the many others who offer us a little respite from real life? “Unfortunately, we just didn’t win the big one”. Then he promptly got crickets, and transitioned into “Post-Joke Press Conference”, where he mimicked Newton’s hoodie and bummed demeanor while discussing the awful joke. The 26-year-old spoke curtly to reporters, rolling his eyes and and walking off after just the first few questions.

This was supposed to be oh-so easy in the Super Bowl for you. But, why? Cam Newton may not have faced fines for his seemingly unprofessional decorum, but there’s one penalty he won’t be able to get around – California taxes.

“Show me a good loser and I’ll show you a loser”, Newton said, via Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer. You never hear a Patriot speak ill of Brady and you never will because Brady accepts responsibility for his failures.

Oh, and The Global Ambassador’s Super Bowl gig was pretty cool, too; made me swell with pride. Podiums are placed wherever there’s enough room in the cavity of whatever stadium the game is being played in, and they often are (a) positioned very close together, and (b) set up in the noisy, open bowels, separated by a thin sheet or riser.

“I don’€™t dive on one fumble because the way my leg was -€” it could have been [contorted] in a way,”€ Newton said.

It has been reported that Cam Newton has to shell out thousands of dollars simply because he played in the Super Bowl, and once the dust settles, he probably won’t see a dollar of the money he earned during the big game. “You get what you get”.

These are the people who tend to be the yellers, the ones most outraged by bad calls by officials, the ones who make the most noise in general.

Instead, Cam Newton walked off in the middle of his post Super Bowl presser.
