Skype is getting musical Mojis made by Paul McCartney
In 1964, when a bunch of young people were screaming like insane over The Beatles’ appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, who could’ve predicted that, more than 50 years later, one of those Beatles would be writing little jingles to play alongside animated Skype emoji?
If you’re a Skype user, chances are somebody will send you an emoticon of a flirting banana in the next couple of days (accompanied by a short snippet of music).
At first Sir Paul McCarthy believed the idea to be unusual, but he soon found the idea fun, nice and new.
McCartney and the Skype team are no doubt hoping you’re firing these off to your partners instead “Words of Love” ahead of Valentine’s Day.
Nothing says “I love you” like an emoji created for an online communication platform.
McCartney said he found the project amusing but also challenging “because you suddenly realise you’ve got to compress a musical interpretation of an emotion into less than five seconds”. “It was like doing a huge crossword puzzle and coming up with all these solutions”.
McCatney recorded his mini compositions at his Hog Hill Mill studio in Sussex, U.K., using various instruments, including a Moog synthesizer, guitars, keyboards, drums and a xylophone. “And at the same time it was musical so it was great practice for me in the studio”, he said. “Likewise we were over the moon to work with Paul, and it was a great creative challenge for us to create the animations to compliment his legendary sound”.
SKYPE VP GURDEEN PALL added: “PAUL McCARTNEY is known for expressing his passion through music”.
