Microsoft Buys iOS App Groove
Microsoft has come out with the announcement that it was releasing a version of its Outlook App especially designed for the Android and iOS devices. Naturally, Groove is the ideal platform for the Redmond giant to revamp its music service and compete with the likes of Apple Music and other giants in the huge music streaming market.
Download the Gadgets 360 app for Android and iOS to stay up to date with the latest tech news, product reviews, and exclusive deals on the popular mobiles.
What the company was not aware of at the moment, is that there already existed an app with a very similar title – available in the Windows Store – which was also downloadable on Apple’s iOS. While it was a thing of beauty, we still struggled to choose what to play from our beloved music collection.
According to Zikera team, during the days of iPod, they had envisioned a music player so intelligent that learns our tastes and habits in order to play the right music at the right time which led to the birth of Groove.
It has been a few months since the software and tech giant rebranded its Xbox Music app to Groove, thereby hinting to a purchase of the app. However, it was never confirmed until now. Its personalized playlist features were achieved through machine learning that can be different for every user depending on his or her listening habits. The bad news is that those who have downloaded the Canadian start-up’s app will no longer receive any updates. Then Groove was born, and you made it a success.
Microsoft officials wouldn’t comment back in July 2015 when asked if the company had bought Zikera. The co-founders of Grove announced the acquisition in a blog post.
Now, it appears that Microsoft has moved to end the confusion by officially bringing Groove Smart Music Player application together with its domain name under its own fold.
