Lake Effect Snow Band Pummeled Areas Off Lake Ontario

This week’s total is impressive even by Northland standards, but the Gogebic Range has seen much more snow than that from a single lake-effect event.
The expected accumulation is 4-8 inches Wednesday during the day; 2-4 inches Wednesday night; 1-3 inches during the day Thursday. In addition to the snow, it will be bitterly cold and windy, with whiteout conditions. The lake effect will first start out in mutliple bands from the Tug Hill into the Mohawk Valley.
Also west winds 10 to 20 miles per hour with gusts up to 30 miles per hour will producing some blowing and drifting snow, and reduce visibilities to less than a half mile at times.
Lake Effect Snow Advisories are in effect for the lakeshore portion of Erie and Ashtabula Counties. High temperatures are likely to remain below zero on Saturday with overnight temperatures well below zero.
