Ellen DeGeneres Launches GoFundMe Initiative to Help Renovate Detroit’s Spain Elementary School
Ellen DeGeneres‘ compassion and generosity may quite possibly know no limits.
Seen in a video posted to her website, the talk show host thrilled Spain Elementary students and staff with the announcement of “Ellen’s biggest most generous giveaway ever!” – a $500,000 donation.
Upon hearing the news about the school’s unfortunate state, DeGeneres contacted Lowes.
DeGeneres’ substantial gift comes at a critical time for the beleaguered school system, which has been shrouded in accusations of grosse negligence and endangering the well being of students and teachers.
As Ellen had already announced that the American home improvement store wanted to donate many essentials to the school, their principal, teachers and students were already very pleased.
“There’s an fantastic school in Detroit that’s getting national attention right now and needs your help”. But in true Ellen fashion, there is so much more: $50,000 in technology – iPads and computers for the classrooms – and $200,000 to help fix things around the school.
Additionally, Justin Bieber announced that $1 from every ticket sold to his April 25 concert at The Palace of Auburn Hills will go to the school. After an additional $250,000 donation, that’s a whopping total of $500,000.
“I couldn’t breathe”, the school’s principal Ronald Alexander said.
Spain Elementary-Middle School has made headlines with it’s deplorable conditions as of late as it does not have any heating, books, technology, a fully-functioning roof and complete teaching staff.
