Fargo police say officer mortally wounded after standoff
A police officer in Fargo, North Dakota, has suffered a “non-survivable” gunshot wound in a shootout with a domestic violence suspect, say authorities.
Police say 33-year-old Officer Jason Moszer went to the home last night after police received a 911 call that a man inside had fired a gun at his family.
Fargo Police Chief David Todd says it’s not clear yet if Schumacher died from an exchange of gunfire with police or if he died of a self-inflicted wound.
The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office have sectioned off a large area of north Fargo to conduct their investigation.
The man who apparently shot Moszer was himself found dead in the barricaded home. The son and the mother fled unharmed, police said.
A SWAT team in an armoured vehicle retrieved the injured officer and took him to a medical facility, where his family is now with him.
Local media had reported that an unidentified man armed with several weapons, including a long rifle, started shooting at police from the home when they approached at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
The SWAT team was using two robots, gas and smoke to try to flush the suspect from the home, Anderson said, though the robots were having battery and other malfunctions. He died at 12:45 p.m.
Huber confirmed the downtown hospital was on lockdown.

It is not known whether or not those fatal wounds were self-inflicted or from police officers.
