A Rally-Inspired Toyota RAV4 TRD Is Coming Soon
The truck will be powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 with 278 horsepower. They then added things like 16-inch black alloys with Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Kevlar-reinforced tires; aluminum skid plates; LED fog lights; black detailing; and color-coded bumper inserts.
“Aimed squarely at extreme off-roading enthusiasts who challenge themselves and their trucks and SUVs in some of the harshest conditions, the new 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro will raise the bar on TRD Pro performance”, Toyota said in a statement. Where this truck really separates from the rest of the lineup is its suspension upgrades, as the TRD Pro features new TRD-tuned springs that feature a 1-inch lift, TRD-tuned rear suspension with progressive-rate off-road leaf springs, and most impressively brand-new Fox 2.5 internal bypass shocks tuned by TRD to help soak up the bumps. It will be available with a six-speed manual transmission – as well as a six-speed automatic.
It turns out it was only taking a little break as a new Tacoma TRD Pro has just rolled into the 2016 Chicago Auto Show. The TRD Pro also will use the hood from the Tacoma TRD Sport, but includes blacked-out hood scoops for a unique look.
The heart of the new Tacoma TRD Pro lies in its chassis upgrades that will work with its 4WDemand part-time 4WD system, an electronically-controlled transfer case and an Automatic Limited-Slip Differential to give this Gen II version greater off-road prowess. Both Crawl Control and Multi-Terrain Select, Toyota’s off-road aides are standard on the truck. Up front, the TRD Pro will greet the world with what Toyota labels a heritage-inspired TOYOTA front grille that cues off the FJ Cruiser. Toyota also included other standard features we like: a standard Class IV tow hitch, trailer-sway control, a larger engine oil cooler, power steering cooler, a 130-amp alternator and hill start assist. The four-way adjustable black leather front seats are heated and have TRD Pro logos on the headrests, and the 4.2-inch color driver’s display in the cluster features integrated tilt and incline gauges.
The single, most-echoed question at the Detroit debut about the improved and upgraded 2016 Toyota Tacoma was, “Where’s the TRD Pro?” Back in 2015, the manual TRD Pro 4×4 Double Cab V6 had an MSRP of $36,435, while the automatic TRD Pro 4×4 Double Cab V6 was priced at $37,415.
