“Deadpool” action comedy sequel in the works
Audiences haven’t even been to the theater to catch Deadpool, the long awaited superhero movie starring Ryan Reynolds and 20th Century Fox is already preparing a sequel.
THR reports that 20th Century Fox has given Deadpool 2 the official green light, with Deadpool scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick already at work on the screenplay for the sequel. Fox would want its creative team to be intact, which would include director Tim Miller and Reynolds in the role as Deadpool.
Again, this isn’t really surprising news, but it’s news nonetheless and should have fans of Deadpool feeling pretty stoked right about now. Miller, a true believer in the project as evidenced by his commitment to directing way back in April 2011, does not have a sequel on his contract with Fox. However, test footage they shot for the planned film “leaked” on the internet a few years ago, and intensely positive response no doubt spurred Fox to finally agree to make Deadpool happen.
While there’s been no rumblings re plot lines for the sequel, we’re guaranteed more innovative and mischievous marketing and hopefully a more in depth gander at X-Force.
Deadpool opens this Friday, February 12, 2016. “And that will be something that probably collectively, if we succeed, we’ll all come together on”, Reese said. They were also responsible for the script for “Deadpool”. Story-wise, there really is an incredible number of directions that Deadpool 2 can go in – as he has been a character consistently featured in Marvel Comics for decades (on beyond his own series, which passed 250 issues last year).
Ryan Reynolds, who portrays the anti-hero, has previously revealed that he is in favor of creating an “X-Force” movie.
When Miller talked about the sequel, he talked about what he would like to see in it, and one of those things is the inclusion of Deadpool’s frenemy Cable.
Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humour, Deadpool hunts down the man who almost destroyed his life. “That’s what makes him interesting to me and also makes him sort of limitless”.
