‘Battlestar Galactica’ Movie Is Back on Track with New Producers
Syfy was able to successfully revive the series in 2004, during which time the storyline was slightly adapted to address the post-9/11 world.
As the show was winding down, Universal began developing the property as a movie, enlisting Bryan Singer to direct it and several screenwriters coming and going.
While many (myself included) adore the original 1970’s version of the franchise, it wasn’t until the Battlestar Galactica TV show emerged in the mid-2000’s that it gained cult status. As Battlestar Galactica has taught us, however, “all of this has happened before and all of this will happen again”.
Universal’s planned film adaptation of Battlestar Galactica is moving forward once more.
Singer later tried to make a movie that would blend the 1970s original and SyFy’s version. As of now, the film has yet to find a writer. The remake also spawned the prequel series Caprica and the web series Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome.
Michael De Luca will produce for Universal with Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark of Bluegrass Films, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
De Luca, Stuber and Clark have producing credits between them ranging from Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Moneyball, The Social Network, and, erm, Fifty Shades Of Grey. The first, starring Lorne Greene and Richard Hatch, ran during the 1978-79 season and was centered on humans engaged in a lengthy war against a cybernetic race known as the Cylons while searching for Earth.
