Michigan officials were warned of Flint water crisis in March 2015
The head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s water office told lawmakers Wednesday that MI authorities broke federal rules requiring them to add anti-corrosive materials to drinking water pumped into Flint homes, triggering a lead-poisoning crisis.
Congressional officials, clearly overwhelmed by the expression of popular anger nationally, sought to contain the enormous social opposition by falsely presenting themselves as outraged bystanders to the corruption and criminality at every level of government.
“All of this is a lot for people to handle, and enough is enough”, she said.
A subpoena was issued to the former Emergency Manager for Flint, Michigan, asking him to come to Washington, D.C. for a deposition on February 25, NBC News reported.
Rick Snyder (R) has said he didn’t know about an uptick in deadly Legionnaires’ disease around Flint until this year, but newly released emails show a Snyder aide had been warned last March.
Sewer fees account for a little more than half of a typical Flint resident’s bill.
Joel Beauvais said Wednesday that EPA’s regional staff urged MI officials “to address the lack of corrosion control” but that state officials delayed responding.
“The fact that they potentially ignored information about people dying as a result of the switch is beyond comprehension”, said Scott in a statement.
“All children in Flint, 6 and under, should have their blood leads tested before April 1, and that’s a really an important message for parents in Flint – please get your child tested”, Lurie said. “The majority of the cases reside or have an association with the city”.

Countering the Obama administration official, Keith Creagh, director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, acknowledged that the state should have required Flint to treat its water, but said the EPA “did not display the sense of urgency that the situation demanded”, allowing the problem to fester for months. Flint began drawing contaminated water from the nearby Flint River, which corroded the city’s pipes and caused lead to leach into the water supply, exposing tens of thousands to the neurotoxin.
What actions is the EPA taking to proactively identify additional economically distressed or other communities that may be at risk of problems similar to what occurred in Flint?
“The only thing I can conclude is that they don’t care”, he said.
Hollins was appointed by Governor Snyder to oversee state and city efforts to fix Flint’s water crisis in December.

Creagh said he can not speak to the billing since it’s a city issue, but that he respected the question because “everyone deserves safe drinking water”.
