Fans sent enforcer John Scott to the NHL All-Star Game by voting him captain of the Pacific Division.

This year’s viewership peaked in the 6:30-6:45 p.m. ET quarter hour, as 1.89 million viewers watched AHL enforcer John Scott score a pair of goals in the Pacific Division’s 9-6 win against the Central Division.

Scott wasn’t one of the three choices fans were given for the all-star MVP award, but the league said he got an “overwhelming”, number of write-in votes via Twitter.

As MVP, Scott also gets a new Honda minivan, something he said he asked his temporary teammates to donate to him if they won.

Not long after he had been named MVP and handed a $1 million check to divvy between his teammates, John Scott’s wife was overcome with emotion.

“From what I saw on social media, it was a good success”, Andrews said of the NHL game during his State of the League briefing on Monday morning in Syracuse, where the AHL All-Star Game will be played Monday night.

Scott’s selection to the All-Star Game had the league miffed, but it had fans entertained.

If there were any doubts about Scott as a player able to hold his own with the game’s best – and there were in some corners – they were put to rest early.

The campaign to elect him initially was a joke on the part of fans who stuffed the digital ballot box just to see what would happen in a three-on- three game to a 6-8, 275- pounder known mostly for his fighting skills. Bishop stopped Kris Letang on a breakaway, and shut down Evgeni Malkin alone in front, in the final minute of the first game.
