Was Deadpool really just named ‘Sexiest Dad Alive’?
Armed with an unlimited arsenal of delicious snark, Reynolds has a blast playing Wade Wilson, the Special Forces operative turned mercenary turned cancer patient turned medical experiment turned Deadpool, a scar-faced mutant with a penchant for superhero drag and a mouth on him.
It is not yet known if director Tim Miller will return to take charge of the planned sequel, but he was instrumental in helping to bring the project to the big screen after years of delays. But, other than that, the red-jumpsuited dude is your basic superhero and “Deadpool” is his origins story – related by him, directly addressing the camera, in a nonchronological order that wrings maximum laughs and thrills out of the tale.
Ryan Reynolds completely owns his character and sacrifices everything in order to give fans a personality he’s has been trying to put onscreen for ten years. “I was already attached to the Deadpool movie. I’m fine with that!” “I have been wrapped around her little finger since the day she plopped out into this world”, he said. Superhero movies, from here on out, consider yourself Deadpool’d.
Ryan didn’t specifically pick up on the fact Disney and Marvel refused to make a Black Widow standalone movie for The Avengers franchise. If I could end it there, I might just do that, but I will soldier on for you, our dear readers. He’s a character that has a pretty rabid following though, and if you ever go to any type of convention where people dress up as their favorite characters, you’ll undoubtedly see at least a few Deadpools. The opening credit roll is, let’s just say, unorthodox.
This is the rare movie where you wish you’d been a fly on the wall when it was written. The studio has come a long way since then with “Deadpool” – whose d*ck jokes abound in the movie.
Any movie that’s sassy from here to eternity like this one isn’t going to please every crowd (think “Kick-Ass”). Two “X-Men” characters serve as foils for the Deadpool antihero philosophy while offering him backup: Colossus (Stefan Kapicic) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand).
When Marvel Comics created Deadpool, it must’ve been triggered by a desperate attempt to break away from the stagnation in the superhero genre.
