Jurgen Klopp says struggling Liverpool striker Christian Benteke must not hide
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been giving Christian Benteke advice to help the forward rediscover his best form.
The Brazil global returned to action following a hamstring injury in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat this week and marked his comeback with a superb free-kick that he rolled beneath the jumping West Ham wall from 20 yards.
But with Sturridge and Divock Origi now back in contention, Klopp has called on Benteke to help himself banish the current problems plaguing his first season on Merseyside. “I saw lots of good signs against West Ham – in not the easiest period of his career he really fought”. What we are doing is in the public eye, so you can not hide yourself.
“If they don’t score goals for a long period it’s more interesting if no one else scores often enough”. We have to carry on and so does he. It’s not possible that he is at 100 per cent, but he is in a really good way.
“But I think we deserved to win, we played better than them, we had so many chances and we can learn from that”.
To come back from injuries in the middle of the season is not too easy. “I don’t know if they welcome him with open arms or whistles, but it’s not too important – it’s up to the situation you are in as a person”.
The Belgian global has now gone 668 minutes without scoring, and coupled with the return of the likes of Sturridge and Coutinho, it remains to be seen whether or not he can hold on to his starting place as he hopes to enjoy a successful return to Villa Park.
“Steven Caulker had back problems before the West Ham game, yesterday he trained normal, he’s available”.
“We got him here and you see then the potential”.
Sturridge made his first appearance of 2016 off the bench at Upton Park after finally getting himself fit following another frustrating injury-plagued campaign and Klopp says while it’s great news to have the trio available again, he needs to carefully manage their minutes over the coming games.
“It’s up to the situation you are in as a person”.
We imagine that Jurgen Klopp is still trying to get to know his players, their skills, and what they are all capable of.
Klopp has revealed that while Lovren will miss this Sunday’s clash with Aston Villa, the defender should return against FC Augsburg in the Europa League last-32 the following Thursday.
“The reaction was a clear sign and proves their real interest in this club and all the things around it. I’m really fine and it’s good”.
