ATM workers forget bag of cash, man drives off with $150K
MAHWAH- Someone made off with a satchel containing $150,000 in cash meant for ATM machines, WABC 7 reported.
Police say that the cash dispenser employees had stopped at a business in New Jersey state when one of them placed the satchel on the front lawn as he moved items around in their vehicle. The driver reportedly believed all was in order when they left for the next stop, and neither employee was aware the money was still on the lawn.
Surveillance video shows the passenger of a white GMC Savana picking the bag up off an Industrial Avenue front lawn near Franklin Turnpike between 11:19 – 11:29 a.m., Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon. The vehicle then left, with the workers apparently unaware the money had been left behind, police said. It wasn’t until they were about 15 minutes away that the employee in the back of the van realized the satchel was not in the vehicle. He did not identify the company. He said the man who removed tires in Monday’s video surveillance is “the same person who is believed to have removed the cash”.
