Unsafe wind chills over the weekend
First off, it’s cold with low wind chills.
Monday is expected to be mid-to-high 20s but we won’t see temperatures above 30 degrees F until Tuesday afternoon. Add steady winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 45 miles per hour into the mix and the wind chill (a perceived decrease in temperature caused by the wind) will make it feel a lot colder.
Saturday: Chance for a morning snow shower, otherwise partly cloudy, windy and bitterly cold. Friday also brings a chance of snow flurries, though accumulation should be less than an inch for most of the area. Much colder temperatures ahead, along with the potential for significant snow accumulation this weekend. Although temperatures will be harsh we are looking at some sunshine to brighten your day.
On Sunday, the high temperature will be about 9 degrees with a low around 2 degrees. Temperatures below 95 degrees require immediate medical attention.
The National Weather Service is forecasting that 7:00 – 8:00 am on Sunday morning, the wind chill temp in town will be 25 below zero.
It’s going to be cold this weekend – bone-chilling, pipe-busting, possibly record-breaking cold. Hypothermia and frostbite become risks after about 30 minutes when wind chills hit negative 10 degrees, Schultz said.
The wind chill warning includes most of MA, except for the south coast.
Do not use a stove or oven to heat the home. Keep the gas tank full-a full tank will keep the fuel line from freezing. Check tire pressure and the battery to ensure that the vehicle will not break down.
