Newton defends actions at post-game interview
“I’d much rather have a guy who hates to lose then a guy who accepts it. A guy who accepts it you might as well push him out of your locker room because you don’t want him around”.
“I didn’t get the fumble, but we can play tit for tat”, Newton said, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Newton says he’s human and has never claimed to be ideal.
Ok you say my effort, I didn’t dive down. “To me, to sit here and say, if you look at it, if you look at the performance in that Super Bowl, they are in the argument to be one of the best ever”. Thoughts on his comments?
Cam said he felt like his leg was in a bad position and might have gotten rolled in when asked about the fumble he didn’t dive for.
The dude just lost the biggest game of his life, not to mention the fact that there was a Broncos player sitting just a few feet away from him, gloating loudly about how they shut Cam down and dismantled the Panthers offense.
“It’s not a popularity contest, I’m here to win football games”. I mean that. We will be back. “I’m a grown man. I can understand that”.
As we know now, Newton ended up at Auburn, won the Heisman Trophy, became the No. 1 player selected in the National Football League draft, won the NFL’s Most Valuable Player and took the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl.
This season has been an incredible journey and I want to thank Panther Nation and all of the fans that INSPIRED us to great achievements.
Sure he was deeply disappointed – ok, downright ticked off – about losing a game that, by all rights, Carolina had umpteen chances to win.
Don’t judge Cam Newton for his 2½ minutes of infamy at an interview table.
Ron Rivera also spoke to media and said he wished Cam handled it differently, but added that losing is hard and Cam is who he is. I didn’t want to talk to the media at the time and the truth of the matter is I still don’t really want to talk to the media, but at the end of the day, things have to happen. Newton handled his team’s loss immaturely. “I was like, ‘No!’ Because you lose, and you can’t do that”. We will be back.
“If I offended anyone, that’s cool”, he continued.
