Cinemax is now streaming to cord cutters via Sling TV
The channel will be offered as a $10 add-on to Sling’s $20-per-month base package, which includes ESPN, AMC, and CNN, among others. Through Sling TV, cord cutters now have a way to legally watch Cinemax’s original series and movie selection, and while it’s not the a la carte option that some people may want, it’s still a way to slim down from a giant cable bundle and potential save some money. Today, Cinemax is testing the waters, too, and is now making its content available for the first time to those who don’t subscribe to cable or satellite television.
Starz is reportedly working on a standalone streaming service of its own.
The offering features live linear Cinemax as well as an on-demand library of more than 500 programs.
Sling also offers EPIX’s movies in its $5 per month “Hollywood Extra” add-on pack.
“Over the past year, we’ve established a history of industry firsts, and the addition of Cinemax is evidence of our intent to uphold this swift innovative pace”, said Roger Lynch, CEO of Sling TV.
Sling TV announced the new channel’s arrival on Thursday, saying the addition brings big-name dramas, box office titles, and some exclusives for subscribers. The network has offered a mobile app called MAX GO for some time now but again, access was limited to those with a traditional pay TV subscription. Cinemax is premiering two new shows, Quarry and Outcast later this year.
