Fox’s Lethal Weapon Remake Is a Go With Damon Wayans Sr.!
The network has signed up Damon Wayans Sr.to play the role Roger Murtaugh in their project, which is of course the part played by Danny Glover in the feature film. Pictures, Mel Gibson played Riggs. McG, who worked on NBC’s cult series Chuck with Miller, is directing the pilot.
Fox has ordered a new pilot and you bet your ass it’s a police procedural based on a recognizable brand because that’s pretty much all that Fox does now.
Fox’s TV series version will center on Texas cop and former Navy SEAL, Martin Riggs, who moves to Los Angeles after losing his wife and baby.
“Forever” creator Matt Miller will pen the television adaptation and exec produce along with Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz. In LA, he’s partnered with Murtaugh, who is recovering from a “minor” heart attack and is supposed to avoid any stress in his life – hence his franchise catchphrase, “I’m too old for this s**t”.
Lethal Weapon is one of several movies being rebooted into pilots for the upcoming fall season.
The original film hit theaters in 1987 and was followed by three sequels in 1989, 1992 and 1998.
Initial reports of the Lethal Weapon tv show suggested that original filmmakers (director Richard Donner and screenwriter Shane Black) will not be involved with the new show. Damon Wayans, Sr. has been cast in the lead role of Roger Murtaugh.
Wayans is repped by ICM Partners and Kleinberg Lange Cuddy & Carlo LLP.
