Conan O Brien Steals Jokes From Twitter Lawsuit Filed
“And they fought over control of the armrest the entire flight”, the joke read.
The late-night talk show host allegedly stole jokes from the Twitter feed and blog of San Diego-based comedy writer Robert Kaseberg.
A few weeks later, Kaseberg tweeted: “The Washington Monument is ten inches shorter than previously thought”. You know the winter has been cold when a monument suffers from shrinkage, ‘ Kaseberg tweeted on February 17.
A lawsuit has been filed against Conan O’Brien over allegedly stealing some jokes from a freelance writer on Twitter.
The other three jokes were related to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Caitlyn Jenner, and the Washington Monument.
The jokes the two comics are tussling over are pretty standard late-night fare.
The objective of my call was not to cause trouble, but to suggest that if I was writing jokes so similar (in fact the exact same) to theirs, I should be contributing jokes to the show.
During his monologue that evening, Conan’s version of the joke went: ‘Surveyors announced that the Washington Monument is 10 inches shorter than what’s been recorded. “Of course, the monument is blaming the shrinkage on the cold weather”.
Sean O’Neal, of the A.V. Club, wrote about Twitter’s action against alleged joke thieves in a post Monday.
One joke that was cited, however, was an airline bit Kaseberg purports to have written on January 14. “Yet somehow, they spent the whole flight fighting over the armrest”.
Twitter now allows users to file complaints against suspected joke thieves at the request of the gag’s writer.
A spokesman for O’Brien said the lawsuit has no merit and declined further comment, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
