Sanders, Clinton Bring Their Pitches To Minnesota
“A person with integrity and authenticity would run as what they are”, Reed said of Sanders, who served as an independent in Congress for more than two decades.
For Clinton, the huge margin in New Hampshire brought new concerns about weaknesses in her candidacy.
Clinton said that Obama’s Wall Steeet largesse in 2008 didn’t prevent him from pushing through new regulations on the industry.
“If you’re the governor of a southern state, as [President] Bill Clinton was, and she of course was first lady, you will get certain experiences interacting with southerners and people of color that you probably won’t get coming up in politics as Bernie Sanders”. While praising Sanders’ passion for reform, she suggested he is a novelty candidate.
“All these guys, you know, the conservatives, I’m a conservative person”. It was a familiar, if sharpened, line of attack from Clinton, who has positioned herself as a pragmatist who would build on President Barack Obama’s successes rather than make promises she says can not be kept.
At other times, Clinton’s words were nearly eerily similar to Sanders’. “And Senator Sanders’ plan really rests on making sure that governors, like Scott Walker, contribute $23 billion on the first day to make college free”. Howard Dean, the former governor and former presidential candidate, is one of Vermont’s superdelegates.
The poll shows Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders tied at 45 percent each among likely caucusgoers.
Clinton was scheduled to campaign in South Carolina Friday, after which, the two Democratic rivals were scheduled to attend a dinner event in Minnesota. “When it mattered he stood up and took on Wall St”. Clinton narrowly edges Sanders among those who have completely made up their mind. She chided him for having criticizing Obama’s leadership, something, she said, “I do not expect from someone running for the Democratic nomination to succeed President Obama”. The former secretary of state’s connections to Wall Street have given Sanders an easy way to link her to his call for a “revolution”. On Twitter, the conversations reflected an even-up debate: 50 percent for Clinton, 50 percent for Sanders.
Clinton’s loss to Sanders in the New Hampshire primary by 22 percentage points was especially painful because she lost with women, her presumed base of support as she tries to become the country’s first female president.
The majority of donors seem to be confident that her campaign would get stronger by the Super Tuesday voting on March 1 when the candidates will cast ballots in 11 states.
Clinton is hoping to offset Sanders’ backing from those young Americans by drawing support from the black and Hispanic voters who make up a big share of the electorate in Nevada, South Carolina and other states that come next on the primary calendar.
Both candidates made overtures to minority voters with a discussion of racial disparities in the economy and discrimination in hiring, schools and housing.
Clinton’s fluency on foreign policy has always been a strength Sanders can’t possibly match.
“I happen to believe that Henry Kissinger was one of the most destructive secretaries of state in the modern history of this country”, Sanders said. “I am proud to say that Henry Kissinger is not my friend”, Sanders said. So take it out on me. But I understand that I came across as condemning those who disagree with my political preferences.
“We should be deporting criminals, not hardworking immigrant families who do the very best they can”, Clinton said.
