Sonam Kapoor’s ‘Neerja’ was never banned in Pakistan
On Tuesday, it was revealed that the NOC for the film’s import was revoked by the federal commerce ministry soon after the document was issued.
However, what was unusual about the whole episode was how the film had been banned from the country and wasn’t even sent to the censor board.
Nearly all the Indian films done well at the Pakistan box office after lift of the ban of movies. “Following this, the information ministry allowed the commerce ministry to import Neerja into Pakistan”. Bad light focused on this movie, It has been revoked by the country’s censor board.
Unable to pinpoint an exact reason for this, Hasan claimed the decision had been made purely by the commerce ministry. When asked about the controversy surrounding the film’s NOC, the official said, “Relevant authorities should be asked about this”. IMGC Executive Director Abid Rasheed admitted that there were certain anti-Pakistan elements in “Neerja” and it showed Muslims in negative light. It’s a true story about a Pan Am flight of 1986. “This might not have gone down well with local audiences”, he speculated.
Neerja has been directed by Ram Madhvani under the banner of Fox Star Studios.
Sonam plays the role of Neerja and she came from middle-class family, she loves her job, along with her Shabana Azmi will play the role of her mother and Shekhar Ravjiani as her love interest. Neerja was slated to release on February 19.
