Kupwara encounter: Two soldiers, four terrorists killed; firing underway
A fierce encounter ensued between militants and security forces in the frontier district of Kupwara this afternoon, official sources said here.
A police official in Srinagar Control room said, “Two army personnel were killed while four others including an officer seriously injured in the encounter with suspected militants in Kupwara forests”.
He said two soldiers were also killed in the operation which was launched last evening at Marseri village in Chowkibal area following specific information about a group of militants hiding in a house.
The Army personnel from 41 Rashtriya Rifles, 16 Garhwal and the police’s special operation group are part of the ongoing operation to flush out the militants.
Earlier, two Indian troops were killed and four others, including an officer, injured in an attack in the same area.
Reports are that the encounter between the militants and the security forces continued on the second day. “We have cordoning off the area”, said Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Garib Das.
