The Muton Returns in XCOM 2
XCOM 2 will introduce gameplay features such as procedurally-generated levels, which will make each experience unique to the player, as well as offer a much deeper level of modding support.
The new Mutons look a bit different as well: Meatier, believe it or not, with a whole lot more neck and less dependence on the bulky exo-suit they wore in Enemy Unknown.
Now that the aliens have access to our DNA, they’re using it to manipulate their own genomes. However, where an injection of mulched-up human made the Sectoid bigger and stronger, it seems to have made the already-buff Muton smarter.
Even though the Muton doesn’t exactly come across as the most intelligent of creatures, human genes have given it “the cunning intellect of the human mind”. This makes the Muton more deadly than ever. Like their descendants in XCOM 2, the EU Muton has a suppression fire ability, plus Blood Call (a stat boost to nearby Muton allies) and Intimidate, which has a chance to panic any XCOM soldier who attacks him. If you said XCOM 2’s revamped Muton solider, you’re correct! Mutons also have the ability to ignore melee damage and counter with their own, this coupled with their pre-existing ability to counterattack enemies makes them a devastating force at close range and from afar. They still maintain an alien grenade and their brute force means for devastating melee attacks.
The former allows the Muton to disrupt and decrease a target’s aim, while being able to follow up with “a free reaction shot, should that suppressed target decide to move”.
Don’t underestimate the Muton, Commander.
